APPLAUSE FOR DATÇA, THE PIONEER OF WINTER TOURISM
Held for the 20th time this year under the leadership of Datça Municipality, the “20th International Datça Open Sea Winter Swimming Marathon”, organized with the support of the TEMA Foundation under the slogan “Every Stroke Is a Remedy for Drought,” also became a remedy for winter tourism.
Hosted by Datça Municipality and organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the District Governorship of Datça, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, Muğla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MUTSO), and Datça Sports Club, the competitions brought together 500 athletes from Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Northern Ireland, the USA, England, Azerbaijan, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Spain, and Türkiye, who competed fiercely.
The races, which started yesterday (January 17, 2026) from Datça Taşlık Beach, concluded with an award ceremony held in the evening in front of the Fok Badem Statue at Datça Harbor. Medals were presented to the winning athletes by Datça District Governor Murat Atıcı, Datça Mayor Aytaç Kurt, Acting District Police Chief Dursun Turan, and District Gendarmerie Commander Oğuz Kapusuz.
